What Is Car Insurance?

Car insurance protects your vehicle from unforeseen risks and provides protection against the losses incurred as a result of – theft, financial loss caused by accidents and any subsequent liabilities. The premium of the insurance is dependent on the value of the car, type of coverage (Comprehensive or Third Party), vehicle classification and the voluntary excess. Car insurance gives confidence to drive peacefully.

Comprehensive is just that! It’s the full package that covers your car against damage caused by a number of insured events, such as theft, accidental damage and natural events (flood, earthquake, fire & storm) as well as protecting you from having to foot the bill should your car cause damage to someone else’s car or property.

What’s covered
  • Loss or damage to your vehicle: Cover if your vehicle is lost, stolen or damaged
  • Your liability: Cover if you injure someone or damage their vehicle or property in an accident
  • Vehicle recovery: We’ll help recover your vehicle and take it somewhere safe in the event of an accident.
  • Legal costs: Cover for legal costs if you’re involved in an accident
  • Motor injury protection: Cover for you, your partner and named drivers for death or serious injury after a motor accident
  • Medical Expenses: Any medical expenses if you’ve been injured in an accident
  • Personal belongings: Loss or damage to any of your personal belongings
  • Replacement locks: Locks, transmitters and immobilisers if your keys are lost or stolen
  • Replacement glass: Repair or replacement of glass
  • Audio/Navigation Entertainment: Cover for your entertainment system

 

What’s not covered
Unfortunately, at Goldstar Insurance Co. Ltd, we can’t cover everything – make sure you’re happy with what’s not covered, including:

 

  • Electrical breakdownIncluding problems with the on-board computers – as well as electrical components
  • TyreAny punctures, cuts or bursts – including those caused by braking
  • Resale value: We can’t cover you for any loss in value of your car after repair

 

What’s optional

  • COMESA cover: Cover for COMESA regions when travelling across the border
  • Loss of Use: Any costs associated with loss of use of your vehicle as a result of an accident
  • Courtesy car: Access to a replacement vehicle, with standard and enhanced options available
  • Emergency Accommodation: Cost of emergency accommodation in the event of an accident

Motor Third Party insurance covers your car against third party liabilities such as death and bodily injuries to third party.

What is covered under Third Party Insurance?
  • Third Party death and bodily injuries: Cover for bodily injury or accidental death to third parties if you are at fault

Motor Third Party Fire and Theft insurance covers your car against liabilities to other parties for death or bodily injuries, damages to other parties’ properties, fire damages to car and theft of your car.

What is covered under Third Party, Fire and Theft Insurance?
  • Fire damage or Theft: Damage to your own vehicle as a result of Fire or theft of vehicle
  • Third Party death and bodily injuries: Cover for bodily injury or accidental death to third parties if you are at fault

FAQ’s

Insurance has parties to it. The first party, is the owner of the vehicle. The second party, the Insurance Company and the third party is any other person who may be affected by the contract.

The buyer can get the policy transferred in his name by applying to the insurance company in which case an endorsement is made to the policy.

You can cancel your policy and the buyer can buy a new policy. You will get a refund for the unexpired / unused period provided there is no claim on the policy.

Third party policy covers the following risks: Death or injury to a third party

Comprehensive insurance policy covers your vehicle against following risks:

  • Natural calamities
  • Man-made calamities
  • Personal accident
  • Third party legal liability
  • Any permanent injury /death of a person
  • Any damage caused to property

You can still renew your policy after your vehicle inspection is complete. Insurance companies may apply additional loading on premium if policy had expired 45-days earlier.

Yes, you can but your vehicle needs to be inspected before it can be renewed to comprehensive policy.

For Transfer of Insurance from one owner to another you need to submit the below mentioned documents.

  • Old policy document
  • Previous insurance policy
  • New application form

If you are buying a new car and want to transfer your existing policy over, you would need to contact us at our customer services department and amend your current policy. There may be a variation in price and a change in underwriting criteria for the new car.

Sale letter of your old car and Third Party insurance cover for old car will be required.
